First Community Bank Announces Seminar for Minority Businesses

COLUMBIA, S.C., September 29, 2022 – First Community Bank is pleased to host the “Access to Capital for Minority Businesses” seminar on October 12, 2022, from 9:00am – 11:30am at Columbia International University. Peter Shand, President of Business Development Corporation (BDC) will present information on the SC State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) as well as other small business loan programs backed by the Small Business Administration (SBA) and the United States Department of Treasury.

Established in 2010, the SSBCI loan participation program enables small businesses to obtain long-term financing by providing loans with attractive terms and lower down payments. The 2022 SSBCI program has allocated a portion of its funds specifically for minority and underserved businesses.

Michele Abraham, State Director for the SC Small Business Development Center and Paul Schmitt, Director of Lending at CommunityWorks Carolina, will also discuss how their respective organizations assist small businesses including preparations for success in capitalization.

“First Community Bank recognizes the need to connect with all segments of our community ensuring access to capital for our local businesses,” said Ted Nissen, President of First Community Bank. “We felt now was a great time to bring resources together that will benefit our minority businesses for success and significance.”
